Fiji Floods

Tourism Fiji has advised an official Fiji government strong wind warning has now been cancelled and for most of the destination’s tourism infrastructure it is business as usual.

 

All international flights are operating normal schedules to and from Nadi International Airport.

 

Domestic carrier Pacific Sun has resumed Twin Otter services to Cicia (Lau), Savusavu, Taveuni and Kadavu however some flights to other outer-island destinations may still be affected by prevailing weather conditions and passengers are advised to check www.airpacific.com for further information.

 

A help desk, set up and operated by Airports Fiji Limited, is continuing to assist with passenger enquiries at Nadi International Airport.

 

On the water, South Sea Cruises/Awesome Adventures had resumed full services into the Mamanuca Islands and the Yasawa Flyer is operating Yasawa Island services as per normal schedules.

 

Malolo Cat IV is also operating its normal Mamanuca Islands ferry schedule to Musket Cove Island Resort, Plantation Island Resort and Lomani Island Resort.

 

Captain Cook Cruises has advised a resumption of all fully-accommodated and day cruise programs.

 

Blue Lagoon Cruises has postponed a seven-day/six-night cruise but advised its four-day and three-day cruise departures are scheduled to depart on 14 and 18 February, respectively.

 

Main roads across the destination are clear and all tourism transportation services are fully operational.

Tourism Fiji advises a general easing of strong wind and heavy rain has resulted in the mostly unaffected tourism infrastructure gradually resuming full operations.

 

Official National Weather Forecasting Centre strong wind warnings remain in place for Viti Levu, the Mamanuca and Yasawa Islands while some parts of the country continue to experience occasional bouts of heavy rain.

 

However all indicators point towards steadily improving weather across Fiji.

 

International flights into the country have continued to operate as normal across the week and domestic carriers including Pacific Sun have maintained Nadi-Suva flights and flights from Nadi and Suva to Vanua Levu.

 

Domestic passengers are being advised that flights to other outer-island destinations may still be affected by the weather and should check www.airpacific.com for further information.

 

In addition to Pacific Sun, both Northern Air and Island Hoppers helicopter services have resumed full operations and Pacific Island Seaplane flights are also expected to recommence regular services.

 

A help desk, set up and operated by Airports Fiji Limited, is continuing to assist with passenger enquiries at Nadi International Airport.

 

On the water, South Sea Cruises/Awesome Adventures had advised it is operating limited services into the Mamanuca Islands but has cancelled Yasawa Island services until the 3rd of February.

 

Captain Cook Cruises has resumed its day cruise program with a Tivua Island cruise in the Mamanucas.  

 

Blue Lagoon Cruises has advised it will commence operation of its scheduled Yasawa Islands cruise from Tuesday, 07 February.

 

Main roads remain unaffected by the weather enabling all tourism transportation services to operate as usual. 

 

As reported in previous advisories, some roads in Rakiraki in the east of Viti Levu are still closed due to heavy rainfall.

 

Fiji-bound travellers should continue to contact their resort or airline for additional information.

While strong wind warnings remain for some areas of Fiji and parts of the country continue to experience heavy rain, Tourism Fiji advises that hotels have not reported damages and Fiji’s visitor industry is continuing to take all measures to ensure the well-being of all guests, staff and property.

 

The strong wind warning issued yesterday by Fiji’s National Weather Forecasting Centre (NWFC) remains in place for the western side of the main island of Viti Levu, the Mamanuca and Yasawa Islands, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands.

The NWFC has also cautioned that flooding may occur in low-lying areas.

 

International flights into the country continue as normal.  Domestic carriers including Pacific Sun advised that while Nadi-Suva flights and flights from Nadi and Suva to Vanua Levu continue to operate, other outer island flights have been affected by the current weather conditions. All day cruises operated by South Sea Cruises/Awesome Adventures, Captain Cook Cruises and other operators remain on hold until further notice

With a tropical depression to the north-west of the Fijian archipelago, Fiji’s National Weather Forecasting Centre (NWFC) has issued a strong wind warning for the western side of the main island of Viti Levu, the Mamanuca and Yasawa Islands, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands.

 

The NWFC has also advised the region can also expect heavy rain and squally thunderstorms in coming days and as a result, the possibility of some flooding of low-lying areas.

 

Tourism Fiji has advised that the destination’s tourism sector has taken measures to ensure the well-being of all guests, staff and property.

 

International flights into the country continue as normal however domestic carriers including Pacific Sun advised that while Nadi-Suva flights continue to operate, some outer island flights may be affected by the current conditions.

 

A help desk is being established at Nadi International Airport to assist with all passenger enquiries.

 

Island Hopper helicopter services continuing to operate however Pacific Island Seaplane flights have been temporarily cancelled.

 

On the water, South Sea Cruises/Awesome Adventures has operated its morning inter-island ferry services to the Mamanuca and Yasawa Islands however afternoon services and all full-day and half-day cruises into the region have been cancelled.

 

Captain Cook Cruises’ seven-day cruises and day cruises are continuing to operate as normal.

 

Blue Lagoon Cruises has cancelled the four-day Yasawa Island cruise scheduled to depart 31 January.

 

Main roads remain unaffected by the weather but some roads in Rakiraki in the east of Viti Levu have been closed due to heavy rainfall.

Tourism Fiji said the destination’s tourism industry is extremely well prepared, is watching the situation closely and will advise further as more information comes to hand.
